Shirley Bassey is a Welsh singer who found fame in the mid-1950s and is well known for recording the theme songs for James Bond films, Goldfinger (1964), Diamonds Are Forever (1971), and Moonraker (1979).
She is the only singer to have recorded more than one Bond song. Her hit ‘Big Spender’ (1967) has become one of her signature songs, out of 105 releases and 35 studio albums.
She was awarded Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2000 Queen’s Millennium Honours List for her services to entertainment.
Bassey appeared at the Globe on January 25 1961.
